KU design professor chosen as 2007 American Craft Show Searchlight Artist

Thomas Huang, assistant professor of industrial design in KU’s Department of Design, was recently named as a 2007 American Craft Show Searchlight Artist.  Huang joins fourteen other artists as a nominated Searchlight Artist, a category newly created by the American Craft Council to feature emerging artists. KU Jazz Festival celebrates 30th year

This year marks the 30th birthday for the KU Jazz Festival, sponsored by KU's Music and Dance Department in the School of Fine Arts.  The festival, which features educational and performance opportunities for students and live concerts for the general public, takes place March 2-3, 2007.

KU art professor contributes to Lawrence riverfront sculpture trail

A proposal to turn a section of the Kansas River trail into a sculpture trail may soon become a reality.  If all goes as planned, a new work created by John Hachmeister, KU associate professor of sculpture, will be installed on a trail that connects Burcham Park and Constant Park near downtown Lawrence.  Hachmeister’s sculpture is part of the Kansas River Expression of Soul (K.R.E.O.S) Sculpture Trail Project, initiated by artist Marie Thompson and sponsored by the Lawrence Arts Guild.  Read more.

The lascivious legend of Don Juan comes to life onstage in this dark and powerful Italian opera, which features lavish costumes and scenery, an 85-member international cast, and a full orchestra. Featuring one of the greatest musical scores ever written, you won’t want to miss the passion and heat of Don Giovanni!

This extraordinary performer’s piano artistry is inspired by the changing seasons and nature’s landscapes. Program selections will include seasonal favorites from his CD’s: Autumn, December, Winter Into Spring and Summer, as well as Linus & Lucy — The Music of Vince Guaraldi, and much more. Please join us in support of Ballard Community Services by bringing a can of non-perishable food to the concert.

Riverdance
Tuesday, March 13, 7:30 p.m. & Wednesday, March 14, 4:00 & 8:00 p.m.

This joyful celebration of Irish music, song and dance that has thrilled millions worldwide comes to the Lied Center for the first time. Riverdance draws on Irish traditions and the combined talents of 70 performers in a dazzling spectacular that captures the imagination and brings Irish dancing and music into the 21st century.
